About Us

Don’t Lick Your Knife is a blog devoted to publishing delicious recipes, articles and stories for food lovers of all kinds. Whether you’ve got a levain rising on your counter right now, or you prefer your bread sliced and bagged, thank you very much, we strive to make this online kitchen a happy and inspiring place to be.

Our food philosophy boils down to this: Making meals shouldn’t be scary. At its best, cooking should nourish your body and your soul — even when you burn the soup. At Don’t Lick Your Knife there are no mistakes — or at least, no catastrophes — only opportunities to laugh, learn, and share in the delight of a homemade meal.

Marisa grew up in a large, food-loving, Mexican-Hungarian-American household. Whether it was making 200 tamales at Christmas or gallons of goulash for Papa’s birthday, these early experiences in the kitchen shaped her understanding of community and food and how the combination lifts us up in every way.

Marisa is a former TV development executive for Fox and Comedy Central. She is a project coordinator at Cater2.me and oversees recipe development and social media for DLYK.

Mimi has always adored a delicious meal. She comes from a long line of talented Jewish home chefs and spent much of her childhood happily devouring stuffed cabbage and kugel. Though she got her start reviewing restaurants for Time Out New York Magazine’s Eating and Drinking Guide, it wasn’t until she started her own family that Mimi truly decided to tackle the kitchen herself. In the process, she’s discovered a lot more patience, a passion for baking, and a conviction that anything is possible.

Mimi is a senior editor and recipe tester for Kidstir and a former education reporter for InsideSchools. She creates and manages all website content for DLYK.
